Students study vocabulary using L2-on-front, L1-on-back flashcards with spaced retrieval.
Procedure
- Students create cards: target word on front, L1 translation on back.
- Retrieve from the L2 side (read word, recall meaning).
- Sort into "known" and "unknown" piles.
- Focus practice on the "unknown" pile.
- Revisit all cards at increasing intervals (next day, 3 days, 1 week).
Tips
- Keep decks small (30-50 cards).
- Always retrieve from L2 to L1, not the reverse.
- Add a brief context phrase on the front to disambiguate meanings.
