Word Cards

Students study vocabulary using L2-on-front, L1-on-back flashcards with spaced retrieval.

Procedure

  1. Students create cards: target word on front, L1 translation on back.
  2. Retrieve from the L2 side (read word, recall meaning).
  3. Sort into "known" and "unknown" piles.
  4. Focus practice on the "unknown" pile.
  5. Revisit all cards at increasing intervals (next day, 3 days, 1 week).

Tips

  • Keep decks small (30-50 cards).
  • Always retrieve from L2 to L1, not the reverse.
  • Add a brief context phrase on the front to disambiguate meanings.
