Dialogue Journals

writingfluencycommunicationmainindividuallow prep10-15 min

Students and teacher maintain an ongoing written conversation in notebooks.

Procedure

  1. Students write a journal entry (topic of their choice or prompted).
  2. Teacher reads and writes a genuine reply — responding to content, not correcting errors.
  3. Student reads teacher's reply and writes back.
  4. Continue the exchange over days/weeks.
  5. Periodically, give focused feedback on one recurring error pattern.

Tips

  • Reply to what they say, not how they say it.
  • Model correct forms naturally in your responses — students notice and pick them up without explicit correction.
