Live Listening

listeningspeakingcommunicationmainwhole-classlow prep10-20 min

Teacher or guest speaks live to the class; students can signal when they don't understand.

Procedure

  1. Teacher (or invited guest) speaks about a topic for 3-5 minutes.
  2. Students listen and take notes.
  3. Students can raise a hand to signal confusion — speaker pauses and rephrases.
  4. After the talk, students ask follow-up questions.
  5. Students summarise what they heard in pairs.

Tips

  • Far more natural than recordings — speakers adjust pace, repeat, and rephrase.
  • Use a simple hand signal (not interruption) so the speaker can finish their thought first.
