Procedure
- Select a short text (200-500 words) slightly above students' level.
- Pre-teach 3-5 key vocabulary items.
- Students read silently, then teacher reads aloud.
- Work through the text together: discuss meaning, highlight grammar patterns, examine vocabulary in context, analyse text structure.
- Follow up with comprehension and language-focused tasks.
Tips
- Use texts that recycle vocabulary from previous lessons.
- One intensive reading text per week is sufficient — pair with extensive reading for balance.
