Mini-Saga
writingvocabularyaccuracypracticeindividualnone prep20-30 min
Students write a complete story in exactly 50 words.
Procedure
- Explain the constraint: a complete story with a beginning, middle, and end — in exactly 50 words.
- Students draft freely first (no word limit).
- Edit ruthlessly: cut unnecessary words, combine sentences, find shorter synonyms.
- Count words and adjust until exactly 50.
- Share and read each other's mini-sagas.
Tips
- The constraint forces careful word choice and editing — every word must earn its place.
- Display the best ones on the classroom wall.
