Barrier Game

Partners sit with a barrier between them; one describes or instructs, the other follows using only language.

Procedure

  1. Seat pairs with a physical barrier (folder, book) between them.
  2. Give one student a picture, arrangement, or set of instructions.
  3. That student describes/instructs; the other follows (draws, arranges objects, etc.).
  4. Remove barrier and compare results.
  5. Switch roles with new material.

Tips

  • Use real objects (blocks, toys, stationery) for lower levels.
  • The barrier forces total reliance on language.
