Anticipation Guide

Students agree/disagree with statements before reading, then revisit after.

Procedure

  1. Create 5-8 statements related to the reading text (mix true, false, debatable).
  2. Before reading: students mark agree/disagree individually.
  3. Discuss choices with a partner.
  4. Read the text.
  5. Revisit statements — change any answers based on what they read, and discuss what changed.

Tips

  • Include at least 2 statements that challenge common assumptions — this creates genuine motivation to read carefully.
