Do You Remember?
readingwritingaccuracyfillerindividuallow prep5-10 min
Students memorise a list of vocabulary words from the board, then try to write down as many as they can after the list is hidden.
Procedure
- Write or display 10-12 recently taught vocabulary words on the board.
- Give students a few minutes to study the list, then erase or hide it.
- Students write down all the words they can remember. Spelling counts.
- After a few minutes, reveal the list so students can check and correct.
Tips
- Before revealing the list, have students collaborate in pairs or groups of three to pool their recall — this adds a collaborative element and helps weaker students.
- When students start looking up at the ceiling, that's the signal they've recalled all they can and you can move to the next stage.
- Very quick to set up and effective for reviewing vocabulary and spelling.
