Text Comparison

readingcommunicationmainpairsmedium prep20-30 minTBLT

Students read two texts on the same topic and identify similarities, differences, and contradictions.

Procedure

  1. Give pairs two texts on the same topic (different perspectives, sources, or time periods).
  2. Students read both texts.
  3. Using a Venn diagram or comparison grid, identify what's shared, what's unique, and what contradicts.
  4. Pairs discuss: which text is more convincing? Why?
  5. Share conclusions with the class.

Tips

  • Choose texts with genuine differences in perspective — not just different facts.
  • The discussion about contradictions is where critical thinking happens.
