Communicative Cloze

Partners have the same text with different words blanked out; they exchange information to complete it.

Procedure

1. Create two versions of a text: Version A has words 1, 3, 5... blanked; Version B has words 2, 4, 6... blanked.
2. Give each partner one version.
3. Without showing texts, partners ask and answer to fill their gaps.
4. Compare completed texts.
5. Check against the original.

Tips

• Unlike mechanical gap-fill, this creates a genuine information gap requiring real communication.
• Partners must describe, paraphrase, and negotiate meaning.
