Procedure

  1. Distribute role cards with character background and objectives.
  2. Pre-teach scenario-specific vocabulary if needed.
  3. Give 5 minutes for character preparation.
  4. Pairs perform the role-play simultaneously.
  5. Debrief: discuss language used and alternative responses.

Scenario Types

  • Service: restaurant complaints, hotel check-in problems, shop returns
  • Professional: job interviews, business negotiations, customer support calls
  • Social: party introductions, travel mishaps, neighbour disputes

Tips

  • Simultaneous pair work first, then select volunteers for whole-class performance.
  • Encourage improvisation within the scenario framework.
