Marketplace (Sales Pitch)

Speakers advertise items for sale, giving their sales pitch multiple times to different buyers who circulate, ask questions, and decide what to buy.
Procedure
- Assign about one-third of the class as sellers and two-thirds as buyers. All sellers are selling similar categories of items (e.g., overseas holidays, cars, kitchen equipment, concert tickets).
- Each seller prepares a brief sales pitch for their item.
- Sellers sit or stand at their "stall." Buyers circulate, listen to pitches, and ask questions about the value and quality of what is being sold.
- Each seller gives their pitch multiple times to different buyers.
- After hearing several sellers, each buyer decides which item they will buy and explains their choice.
Tips
- The repeated delivery of the sales pitch naturally develops fluency.
- Buyers asking questions adds an interactive element that pushes sellers to elaborate and respond spontaneously.
- Works well with topics learners find genuinely interesting (holidays, technology, food).
- Can be followed by a brief report where buyers justify their purchasing decision to the class.
