Personalizing Task

After working with a text, students connect its content to their own lives — recycling the text's vocabulary and grammar in a personally meaningful context.
Procedure
- After completing a text-based task sequence, set a personal connection question related to the text's theme.
- Students discuss in pairs or small groups, drawing on language from the text.
- Optional: write up the personal response for homework.
- Share responses in the next lesson.
Examples
- After a text about fear of heights → "Have you ever been afraid of heights? Tell your partner about an experience."
- After a story about childhood → "What were you afraid of as a child? What did you do about it?"
- After an article about online dating → "How did you meet your partner/best friend?"
Tips
- Encourages learners to review texts and mine them for useful language.
- Works well as homework at the end of a task sequence.
- The personal connection makes the recycled language more memorable.
