speakinglisteningcommunicationmainsmall-groupnone prep20-30 minTBLT
Inner circle discusses while outer circle observes, then they switch.
Procedure
- Seat 4-6 students in an inner circle; the rest form an outer circle.
- Give the inner circle a discussion topic.
- Inner circle discusses for 10 minutes; outer circle listens and takes notes.
- Switch: outer circle members rotate in, new topic or continuation.
- Debrief: observers share what they noticed about arguments and language.
Tips
- Give observers a specific focus (e.g., strongest argument, new vocabulary used).
- Use an empty "hot seat" in the inner circle that any observer can temporarily join.
- Keep rotations to 2-3 rounds maximum to maintain energy.
