Simulation
speakingreadingwritingcommunicationmainsmall-grouphigh prep30+ minTBLT
Students engage in an extended, realistic scenario with roles, constraints, and consequences.
Procedure
- Set up a scenario (town council meeting, business negotiation, crisis management).
- Assign roles with specific goals, information, and constraints.
- Students prepare (read briefing documents, plan strategy).
- Run the simulation — students interact in character, making decisions and dealing with consequences.
- Debrief: what happened, what language was used, what could improve.
Tips
- Differs from role-play in scale and duration — simulations run 30+ minutes with multiple decision points.
- Provide written role cards with enough detail for sustained interaction.
