Students engage in an extended, realistic scenario with roles, constraints, and consequences.

Procedure

  1. Set up a scenario (town council meeting, business negotiation, crisis management).
  2. Assign roles with specific goals, information, and constraints.
  3. Students prepare (read briefing documents, plan strategy).
  4. Run the simulation — students interact in character, making decisions and dealing with consequences.
  5. Debrief: what happened, what language was used, what could improve.

Tips

  • Differs from role-play in scale and duration — simulations run 30+ minutes with multiple decision points.
  • Provide written role cards with enough detail for sustained interaction.
