Students read or listen to a text, then retell it to a partner from memory.
Procedure
- Students read a short text (or listen to a recording).
- Put the text away.
- Retell the key content to a partner from memory.
- Partner asks clarification questions.
- Optional: retell to a second and third partner for fluency gains.
Tips
- Combine with 4-3-2 timing for maximum fluency benefit.
- The retelling doesn't need to be word-for-word — key information is the goal.
