Review Writing

Students write a review of a text they've read, using evaluative language and evidence.
Procedure
- Read a text (article, story, essay).
- Discuss: what makes a good review? (opinion + evidence + recommendation).
- Students write a review (150-200 words).
- Pairs read each other's reviews.
- Would the review make you want to read the text? Why/why not?
Tips
- Teach evaluative language explicitly: "compelling," "unconvincing," "the author effectively demonstrates..."
- Reviews are one of the few genres students encounter daily (Amazon, IMDb, Google).
